The Power of Giving: Local Organizations in the Spotlight for Boerne & Kendall County Nonprofit Day
Every August 17, National Nonprofit Day reminds us of the incredible role nonprofits play in strengthening our communities. For the last few years, we’ve been taking it to the next level. Area officials have officially proclaimed August 17th as Boerne and Kendall County Nonprofit Day! It’s our opportunity to shine a spotlight on the hundreds of organizations that pour their time, energy, and passion into making our community better.
Our corner of Texas is home to more than 400 nonprofits, ranging from animal rescues and arts organizations to youth programs and social services. Many residents are surprised to learn just how many groups are working behind the scenes to improve quality of life here. In fact, according to our 2023 Nonprofit Economic Impact Study done in partnership with Trinity University and The Kronkosky Charitable Foundation, our local nonprofits reported a combined $50.3 million in total expenditures – a figure nearly equal to the combined general fund budgets of the City of Boerne and Kendall County.
Kendall County’s generosity is unmatched – as we’ve been named the #1 most charitable county in Texas, and it’s no wonder why. In 2023 alone, our nonprofits engaged over 7,500 volunteers, whose combined efforts touched lives in countless ways. These are the neighbors who serve meals to families in need, coach youth sports teams, rescue stray animals, preserve our natural spaces, and organize community events that bring us together. Their efforts ripple through every corner of our county, creating stronger connections, brighter futures, and a community where generosity isn’t just an act, it’s a way of life.
On August 12th, the Kendall County Commissioners Court and County Judge Shane Stolarczyk proclaimed August 17th “Kendall County Nonprofit Day”. Then, on August 13th, City of Boerne Mayor, along with the City Manager and City staff, proclaimed August 17th as “Boerne Nonprofit Day”. The support and love received from these entities helps in shining a light on the vital services these nonprofit organizations provide.
On Boerne and Kendall County Nonprofit Day, we encourage you to do three things:
1. Thank a nonprofit organization for their services
2. Learn about the work they do
3. Consider how you might get involved
Whether it’s donating, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, your support helps sustain the vital work these organizations do every day. If you love puppies, volunteer at Barktoberfest with the Hill Country Animal League! Looking to support the first responders? The 100 Club of Kendall County is hosting their Tug the Truck event this Fall! Whatever your interest may be, there is an organization who serves in that capacity, and we can guarantee that they’re accepting volunteers!
Let’s celebrate the heart of our community – the nonprofits and volunteers who keep Boerne and Kendall County thriving!
