Gala's award winners.
The Chamber’s Annual Heart of Boerne Awards Gala was held on Thursday, January 17 at the Boerne Convention and Community Center. Over 300 attended this year’s Gala that was catered by Hill Country Catering and underwritten by GVTC. Thanks to our many sponsors, this event was an evening not soon to be forgotten (see list of sponsors below).
Ballots were tallied by the CPA firm of Akin, Doherty, Klein & Feuge, PC, and Mr. Joe Feuge was on hand to present the envelopes to Chad Upham, 2007 Chairman of the Board as he announced this year’s winners in each of six categories as voted by Chamber members. Congratulations to Methodist Boerne Medical Center who was voted 2007 Business of the Year. Dean Alexander accepted the award on behalf of Methodist Health Care. Tootie Pie Company took the award for 2007 New Business of the Year. Accepting this award was Don Merrill. The Outstanding Organization Award was presented to the Hill Country Animal League Spay & Neuter Clinic and was accepted by Jennifer Blackson. Steve Artale was selected Boerne’s Citizen of the Year and was quite honored to accept the award. Ron Bowman, City Manager, accepted the award for River Road Park who was voted 2007 Attraction of the Year. And selected as Special Event of the Year for 2007 was the Weihnachts Christmas Parade.

All the nominees were recognized and congratulated for being nominated by their peers in their particular category. Other nominees for New Business of the Year were: The Creek Restaurant, The Trust Company and Water 2 Wine. Other nominees for 2007 Business of the Year were: Bear Moon Bakery, Mercedes Benz of Boerne, and GVTC. Other nominees for 2007 Citizen of the Year were: Sheriff Roger Duncan, Mayor Dan Heckler, and Kendall County Judge Gaylan Schroeder. The other nominees for 2007 Outstanding Organization of the Year were: Boerne Education Foundation, The Centurions of Kendall County and Kendall County Economic Development Corporation.
Other Special Event 0f 2007 nominees were: Agricultural Heritage Museum Chuck Wagon Cook-Off, Kendall County Fair, and Key to the Hills Rod Run.
And finally the other 2007 Attraction of the Year nominees were: The Kendall County Fairgrounds, Old Number-Nine Greenway and Northrup Park.
Sheriff Roger Duncan was honored to received the Chairman’s Award from 2007 Chairman Chad Upham.
The Annual Heart of Boerne Awards Gala not only recognized and honored area businesses and individuals for contributing to our community, but it helps fund the John P. Ebner Memorial Scholarship that is given annually to an area student who is pursuing a health career. Our first scholarship recipient was Austin Winter who is attending Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, pursuing a degree as a pharmacist.
